A methodology for investigating the effect of a south oriented surface with varying inclination angle in reflecting natural light towards a north oriented glazing of a top lighting system is proposed for use under clear sky conditions. This was done based on mathematical simulation for a top lighting system. Results have shown the importance of the reflective surface in increasing the illuminance received on the glazing of the top lighting system. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
