Measurements have been made of the reduced yields of ferric ions which are obtained when pulses of fast electrons are used to irradiate air-saturated solutions of ferrous ions containing various concentrations of chloride ions. The yields for solutions containing up to 10-2 mol dm-3chloride cannot be explained by interaction between H and Cl or Cl2- but can be quantitatively accounted for if the reaction,
